The Imagine Salem Housing Portal is a repository of the City’s ongoing efforts to implement the housing guiding principles set forth in Imagine Salem. Upcoming meetings and housing events will also be posted to the portal.

Healthy and affordable housing is an essential part of Salem’s wellbeing. However, more than half of families in Salem are “housing cost burdened” meaning that they pay more than 30 percent of their income on rents or mortgages. With the cost rents and mortgages being the single expense for most households in Salem, many families are struggling to afford other necessities including healthy food, clothing, transportation and medical care. Likewise, a lack of housing choices is increasing the risk of displacement for many Salem residents. What can Salem do about this? The City is eager to implement a housing agenda with a myriad of strategies that work towards preserving and increasing the city’s housing stock.
