REMINDER: Upcoming Deadline to Apply for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program – October 9, 2022
Need to update your community’s FEMA Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP)? Looking for funding to implement mitigation strategies identified in your HMP? $110,760,576 is currently available to Massachusetts municipalities, through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) to support municipal plans and projects that reduce risks from natural disasters. Note that all municipalities are required to update their HMPs every five years to maintain eligibility for FEMA mitigation grants. Take advantage of this extra special funding opportunity under HMGP 4496 as the federal cost share has been increased to no less than 90% (normally 75%).
MAPC’s Environment Team welcomes the opportunity to provide technical assistance, from developing or updating HMPs to working with municipal staff on identifying complementary planning/analysis that would benefit your community’s plan. Examples might include in-depth analysis of stormwater flooding, detailed review of town infrastructure, targeted outreach to populations or neighborhoods, or proposed updates to bylaws and regulations. While the Statement of Interest deadline for HMGP is rolling, the final application to MEMA is due October 9, 2022. For more details, check out MEMA’s Notice of Funding Opportunity. Reach out to Martin Pillsbury with questions and let us know how we can support you with this grant funding opportunity!
