Updated Sector-Specific Workplace Safety Standards

The Massachusetts Department of Health has updated sector-specific restaurant, retail, and indoor and outdoor workplace safety standards. These changes go into effect on Monday, September 28th.

Please note: The City of Salem is postponing the start of the new state standards in Salem (see below).

Updated retail standards include:

·   Fitting rooms may be opened for use by businesses for which their operation is necessary. Any clothing tried on by a customer must either be quarantined for 24 hours or thoroughly steam cleaned prior to returning to the floor

Updated event standards include: 

·    Event venue operators are urged to inform clients of the Commonwealth’s current out-of-state travel order and to encourage them to inform any out-of-state guests of the order. Event venue operators are encouraged to post information on their websites about requirements for out-of-state travelers

·    Valet parking operations should be avoided unless necessary due to physical or geographic constraints or in order to accommodate individual guests with disabling conditions

·    Valets must be provided with hand sanitizer and should use sanitizer before and after parking vehicles
