North Shore Priority Development Sites VI

One of the roles of the North Shore Alliance is to support economic development initiatives across 30 towns along the northeast region of Massachusetts. Not only do we encourage and support growing companies and their leaders, but we also bolster new businesses by providing information about commercial development opportunities for entrepreneurs to start a new business or current business owners to expand their footprint. 

To do this, we highlight commercial priority development sites with the help of the region’s Economic Development Directors, City and Town Planners, and Community Directors. 

Last week we highlighted some of the points of interest and resources available to businesses within the town of Saugus. Staying with our spotlighted town of Saugus, Massachusetts, which is conveniently located along major interstate 93 & 95, as well as Route 1 and 107, here are three development areas to consider for your growing commercial business. 

Saugus Ironworks

Saugus Harbor Waterfront 

Located on the working waterfront of Saugus, approximately 1,300,000 sq. ft.of “mixed use” development land is available. The area is adjacent to residential neighborhoods and natural resources. Add to that the convenience of Boston only 10 miles away and the location couldn’t be better! 

The area has a Waterfront Mixed Use Overlay District designed to incentivize mixed use and enhance amenities such as restaurants and retail.

Saugus Mill 

Located adjacent to the Saugus Ironworks National Historic Site, the Saugus Mill is approximately 600,000 sq. ft.. The Ironworks is a tourist destination that often brings in traffic from surrounding communities as well as across the nation. 

This former mill area dates back to the 1600s. The area has a Historic Mill Overlay District over it designed to revitalize, repurpose, and preserve the existing historic structures with mixed uses.

Sears Auto Center 

Located at 1325 Broadway, Saugus, Massachusetts, this 693,214 sq. ft. area within the Square One Mall along busy Route 1. This site, which currently houses the Sears Auto Center, has the potential to be developed into a commercial retail center with 3-5 restaurants and/or shops.
