The Importance of Diversity-Owned Businesses
March 3, 2023 10:13 amDuring the month of February, we celebrate and raise awareness of the many contributions that Black Americans have made to this nation and beyond. As an organization that values and supports diversity, we aim to support the many diverse businesses on the North Shore of Massachusetts throughout the entire year. One of the first steps in helping these businesses is making others aware of their existence so they may prosper and increase their contribution to the economic health of our region. We believe our new Diversity Directory will move us in this direction.
The Diversity Directory, published on our website www.northshorealliance.org is both an online and printable directory and a marketing tool for businesses that would like to offer their services or products to other businesses and institutions within the North Shore region. It will additionally help private businesses and municipalities identify diverse businesses so they can proactively increase equity in their procurement opportunities.
We invite everyone to support our new Diversity Directory by spreading the word to North Shore Diverse Businesses to sign up. Eligible businesses include those that are at least 51% owned by people in at least one of the following categories: immigrant, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons/people (LGBTQIA), Black/African American, Hispanic or Latino (Central/South American or Caribbean), American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander, person/people with a (dis)ability, Service-Disabled Veteran, Veteran, and/or Woman/Women.
We will be sharing more information about the value of supporting diversity-owned businesses, how to support these businesses, and the resources available. Please be sure to return to our blog to continue this discussion.
